Just got a aluminum tool box. I wanted a black one but this was a a steal of a deal. Anyone paint theirs black? What method works best for a durable paint job?

If it were me, and I was going to either paint the box or have it powdercoated, I would take some good mag-wheel cleaner and wipe it down first. Get the "etching" kind, that has an acid content. It will help the new coating stick, by giving it something rougher than the original polished surface to stick to.

This is the kind I use:

If you use a rag, and this stuff, it will de-gloss the aluminum without scratching it. (Wear rubber gloves.....this stuff is kinda stout on bare skin.) Rinse it off when done; I'm sure you know the drill.

Works good on a lot of other aluminum parts, too.

Just do like i did on my fullsize. Roll on bedliner the lid and leave the rest of the box alone.
