'86 Ranger - Replacing the Turn signal switch
My turn signals don't work anymore,so I want to replace the assembly.

I removed two screws from the plastic steering top and bottom cover.
I noticed two metal (I hope they are not plastic, otherwise they will break with the force I'm using trying to remove the harnesses) clips holding the electrical harness on the top and bottom.

Will these clips break? Do I lift up the clip as far as I can,while using needle nose or channel locks to grasp the black wiring harness plug-in and pull it off?

I'm also trying to remove the metal turn signal arm. There is a pin, but it doesn't release the arm.

Thanks for any insight help to remove this turn signal and replace it with an OEM.

just wiggle the connector the black part and pull hard it should eventually pull off. I would then get a ohm meter and test the switch first I`m not sure but you may have to pull the steering wheel off to get to the turn signal switch but make sure it is bad before you take it apart. check for power going to it do the emergency flashers work. pull the connector and check for power to it. power with key off are the flashers and power with the key on is the signals. A good schematic will tell you what wires do what but a test light will tell you if it is getting power in and out by backprobing the wires on the connector so confirm the switch is bad first.

wht/red hazard key off hot
lt grn stoplamp hot when brake is pushed
lt blu turn signal key on hot
lt grn/wht left turn
wht/lt blu right turn
fuse 1 is turn signal and backup lights

I looked up the switch and it looks like you can change it without pulling the wheel I just never got that far into mine just changed the wiper switch and added the delay governor.

Yes, at first I thought i would have to remove the steering wheel for this, but remembering when I last replaced my ignition switch I noticed the turn signal switch being on the other side of the ignition. I'm just afraid that I may break one or the other plastic retainer clip that holds both wiring harnesses.

I was also checking my fuses under the steering on the panel and one 20A fuse fell out of it's plug in. I'm going to try to remove the broken fuse tabs that are still in the plug, by hopefully using a magnetic screwdriver. ( all because i was checking for why my buzzer does not go on when the door is opened like before)
Or maybe remove two hold down screws holding the fuse panel on the panel and maybe jiggling the pieces out.
