do you ever regret mounting it up there?

i'm debating on doing a basket rack on my b2, i love the look of it but don't really need the extra space for anything other than hi-lift and lights...

the hi-lift can be incorporated into the swing out tire carrier i ain't built yet, as for lights.. i might do a cowl mount or something..

i've talked to a few people and they wish they never did drill the holes in the top of their bronco or whatever they own.. it causes clearance issues on the trails, cog issues, car wash issues and so on...

what do yall think?

I dont have a roof rack, but have some experience with them and common sense. A good way to decide is to weigh the pros and cons.

In your case: Pros: Can put on lights and possibly hi-lift
Cons: Dont really need extra space, car wash issues, bolts in roof, COG, slightly lower mileage, trail clearance.

IDK. I think they are incredibly handy, but I think you need to choose based on your application. I personally wouldnt.

i'm thinking that b/c i wouldn't use it for the extra space- and i've already kinda figured out how to get around the lights and hi-lift w/o it... i don't need it. i figured i could use a hitch basket for extra space if i needed it. and with my plans for

for camping reasons... i think i'm gonna leave my roof nice and smooth

Good call. I've seen a good few windows broken while putting a hi lift up top too.

with the roof rack i'd have to reinforce the roof, i've already had to reweld the joints at the top and re attach the support bars to the roof, i had the "b2 roof pop"... and then the wiring, simple just time consuming.. i have a basket rack already set up for 4 front lights and 2 rear. thing i'm gonna use two of those front ones and the 2 hella's on my truck already in the front. bumper and cowl(maybe) and make the 2 rear ones from the rack mount in the rear bumper when i make it..

so i have everything figured out without a roof rack

I had one on my old BII, I liked it. I stored sleeping bags, a tent, an Axe, shovel and all sorts of stuff up there.

A spare tire in this case......

That looks good. That is just attached to the roof, not to factory roof racks right?

I have the factory roof racks, so was thinking about putting a cage up there..

my theroy was to put explorer roof rack up there, and make my rack removable.. but i think i'm not gonna do it, and just focus on making my trailer. i already have a 4x6 trailer that's gonna have room for one 4 wheeler and then the upper rack for luggage. then a holder for jerry cans, spare, whatever else. like the pic i posted.

I attached it to the factory rails...it worked out perfectly.

see if i had factory roof rails, i wouldn't think twice about it. but i kinda like the smooth top i have...

see.. all nice and clean

Of course. Make a basket onto roof racks and attach the roof racks to the factory roof rack rails above the doors/behind the side windows.

Then if you dont like the look, you can rip that bitch off, and if you are going camping or something and do need the space, slap the sucker on top.

if i can mount my roof rails in the little "dips" of the roof so even the bars aint seen.. hmmmm...lol. i still may do it or i might focus on the trailer instead

lol looks like you need 3 more spares for that mud hole...and a winch

I would leave it clean, your truck looks good! You can get the gutter mount light bar for the lights up top and you won't have to drill holes in the roof. Then do your spare tire thing and problem solved.
