OK i have a 1985 ranger 2x4 that i want to convert to 4x4 ....on that note my grand paw has a 1979 f150 super cab 4x4 351m/400 c6 and np205 d44 and 9 inch the bed is shot and the cab is crap but it still has all the running works he got it about 9 or 10 years ago it hasn't ever ran in the time that he has had it (just sat in his junkyard) it isn't locked up and seams to be in decent condition but i cant get the transfer case to go in gear not sure if that is a major concern or if something is binding up so what do yall think. do you think it would be worth while to get the motor running and swap the engine trans transfer case and drive line to the ranger? also how much effect does sitting have on a automatic transmission?

Hah. My friend it shall cost a good penny but maybe not but maybe so but maybe not.
What I'd do is just put some mud grips on the back. Ranger is light but do as you want. Maybe you have a Swiss Bank Account.

Lots cheaper to sell one truck and buy another one...

As far as the automatic goes, I've seen 'em sit for 10 years and work fine as soon as they're fired up again. Your biggest worry would be the seals (internal and external) and other rubber parts such as o-rings. If it has been full of fluid the whole time and free of internal moisture, my bet is that it would work fine.
