I am wanting to install HID bulbs in my fog lights, but, I believe the bulbs are too long to fit in the oem fixtures. I was wondering what anyone else has done to thwart this problem.

well fog lights are designed to reduce glare when driving in fog or incliment weather. putting hid's will pretty much render them useless

Yeah, I figured as much. It's more for the look as I have HID headlights. Isn't the lower the spectrum the better the sight, or glare reduction in incliment weather i.e. yellow fogs? For some reason that pops into my head, I could very well be wrong.

I have HID heads and stock fogs. I love the light combination. I've seen a fair number of amber/yellow fogs(and offroad lights for that matter) to help cut through the dust in the desert.

This is what i have:

I have found that the shadows created by the HIDs make whoops look like razorbacks - i.e. the shadows are super dark and well defined. The stock fogs give a nice soft shadow to everything, which gives you a better idea of whats ahead offroad.

yeah. amber works good but the stock lights are fine

Yeah dude.. That setup is nice 3.0ranger1227. The spotter lights look as if they are one unit..what kind are they?

If you want HID fogs, go look for projector fog units and retrofit them into your housings. They have a nice cutoff just like projector units for headlights.

I have a 2005 XLT, and would like to add HID fog lights too it. Lots on ebay. Saw a kit with 2x ballast and the fog lights for about $40. I'd like to have a switch in the cab. I can do the wiriing. I suppose I'll need a switch, relay, wiring, ballast and the fog lights as well.

Will the standard ranger fog lights bolt right in? Is there an special mount kit required? my truck never had fogs. Any tips or links appriciated. Would like to keep it under $100.

I have a '93 with factory fogs. There is factory brackets. You might get ahold of some at a wrecking yard, or you could fab some yourself. I'm not sure what type of mounts you would need for an '05 as i haven't seen those factory mounts.
