yet another person wasting time on a D30

I just got done watching a video on axles, etc... and read that CV joints are stronger and they explained why. But I know that when they break, they make loud crunching sounds and what not when driving. I guess theres a reason why mine has CV's. Plus I looked up the price of new axles from Autozone with the CV joints and they are only $70 each.

I was all excited when my buddy told me he went wheeling with a SAS bII. It's locked front and rear and sits on 33's and it's unstoppable... He plowed through a ditch in 5' of snow and backed straight out of it easy. It helped out a lot to see just how to set mine up but that truck is very getto fabbed

My rear end is LS and my front as I said one day will have an aussie locker in it. The only time 4wd is used is for snow and when I go hunting, so all I need is limited slip. I start my new job today so hopefully in the next month I will be able to afford plates and insurance so I can drive my truck and continue work on my truck soon.

Very nice. So you got the 7.5 l/s? Very rare. My BII was such a beast after I swapped in an 8.8 l/s especially in the snow

yea id like to lock front and rear for now i think im lincoln locking the rear 7.5 but like i said i have teh d35 and 8.8 in so i might lock them properly

My last rear end (yes it had a spider gear blow up) was l/s too. The current one came from a JY and was like that and my dads is l/s also.

I dont know if you have heard of the upgrades you can do. You can put 99 and up knuckles on a 98 and down D30 plus it gives you dual piston brakes too. Heres some specs on if it were to be done...

"Everything bolted up to the stock XJ axle from the donor WJ truck. The only thing i had to get was the JKS spacers to correct the stub shaft u joint orientation to the WJ knuckles. otherwise the u joints on the XJ axles bind up. and the lower balljoint needs to be swapped out for a lower WJ balljoint since the taper is .5 degree per foot difference."

Wish that info was in the tech. library.

As far as my D30 goes, my bro-in-law says he will have the pinion bearing changed soon (been saying that for 4 months now) and if he doesnt do it soon, Im taking them back and having a shop do it and setting up the gears on my own (they are used gears).

So I've decided to go coils and I'm getting xj lift coils this week and will be ordering rod ends, misalignment shims and tube adapters from ballistic fab. Still need steering, gears and track bar. I sold some stuff so I'll have some finances rolling in hopefully to speed this install

Nex thing I need to do is figure out how Im going to lift the rear. Probably get some 63 inch chevy springs and have them re-ached to fit the ranger or order some lift leaves.

Thats one thing people dont specify is how they lifted there rears up.

My dad at first was like wondering why I want to do this swap and now hes like getting into the idea and said we will get it under your truck, shouldnt be to hard to do.

nice, i talked to the guy that i sold my tires to the other day who happened to have an 88 supercab ranger that was about as tall as my truck... he had a 10" shackle and 96 explorer rear leaves. no lift blocks, thats what i'm looking at. i was gonna do 63" chevy's but i can't bring myself to doing all the work on it when i can just buy explorer leaves which are longer and carry more arch since they go under the axle instead of over... first i need to see how high the front will sit ha ha

I've read that you dont want a super long shackles as it can cause problems.

But ya I need to see how much my front will be before tackling the rear.

I blew the wheel joint on my d28 last night so I guess the Dana 30 is called to duty!!

Woo Hoo, another TTB D28 bites the dust!!!!!! I see a build thread in the future on this truck, I'll be watching it for sure.
