Would a 1999 2WD Explorer 5.0 be a good V8 swap for my 1996 Ranger 3.0 2WD.

Will the engine and transmission drop right in. (Is the oil pan correct for the frame of my truck.)

Regards,
Chris M.

No 5.0 will "drop right in" but that might be about as close as you get.

I am not sure about the oil pan, but I think you might still have some issues there with the Explorer being IFS and your 96 being a TIB.

using a 96-97 explorer donor would make life much easier if your truck is a 96. the explorer pan may work but may not clear your I beams, I would suggest using a fox body oil pan and pick up (from the 87-95 5.0L mustang) I would use the explorer motor mount plates, and of course the explorer engine wiring will plug right into your 96 ... using a 99 explorer donor will cost you more than save you ... IMHO

The 99 can work, but 96-97 is better due to no pats and the fuel system is return style, matching your truck. A dual sump oil pan is required, the explorer pan won't fit unless you cut your engine crossmember out. Look at my SVT build thread, first post. It will answer most questions you have :icon_thumby:
