Wiring for glow plugs

I've got an engine from a 1983 Ranger Diesel in my skid steer. The glow plug circuit has not been hooked up and I'm trying to do so. I'm wondering if anyone has a wiring schematic and can show or tell me how the glow plug circuit works? Is there a resistor it goes through? Is there a relay? Is there a "pre-heat" stop on the ignition switch?
