My credo
A properly suspensioned Ranger can be safely airborne for up to 4 seconds at a time! =:O
... and do I have to remove them to hit it with MAF cleaner spray, or can I just blast into that tubular housing it's sitting on?? Normally Torx Security screws mean "Don't ever EVER remove this, or we'll cut off your DSL!"... lol.

I don't even know if it NEEDS cleanin', but it's never been done, and I picked up a can of CRC MAF cleaner "on sale"... supposed to be SOOOO much better than carb cleaner... uh-huh.

I've always been good about changing air filters, but the prospect of getting "butt dyno" out of a spray can is hard to ignore. :icon_twisted:

I didn't know they had them screws... But to make em regular torx all one must do is to place a small punch at the most angle it can get against the little tit and then hit the punch with a sfh and the tit will pop off at the base..
Big JIm

No prob w/ the screws... telco buddy has the tool... but is there some CONSEQUENCE to UNscrewing them? New GASKET needed? Delicate mechanism destroyed by sunlight? :derisive:

BOTTOM LINE: How do I clean the MAF, without monkey-wrenching my "eck-five"??

I just hope the increased power doesn't sprain my neck er sumthin'... :icon_twisted:

i just removed that section of intake and sprayed the cleaner on the MAF... its really easy to get at

D'OH!!... that WHOLE TUBULAR SECTION is the MAF, and the torx screws are so you don't disassemble it further than necessary... yeah, just spray out that small venturi tube inside the much larger (3"??) tube.

Just hope I don't smoke all the tread off my tires afterwards... lol...

Let's try this pic posting thaaang...

Yeah, the torx screws hold on that flat electronics package on top, but no need to mess with that... yet.

Yes, the MAF is the entire tubular unit. Just unbolt it and spray the filament where that hole is in the upper left MAF pic is.

Well I had to pull the "elephant trunk" off to get to the heater hoses anyway, so I pulled the hose off the MAF end, looked in through the airbox lid... the thing looked VIRGINAL (only 33K miles), but I blasted it anyway... no perf change whatsoever.

Couple months ago I pulled one from a 3.0L '91 beater Taurus w/ 140,000 mi... same, looked BRAND NEW.

Oh well, gotta be other things that can be cleaned with MAF cleaner. I should just take it back, say "it dunna work", lol.
