I've been think about this for a long time and digging into different tech articles on how much HP it takes for a certain vehical going a certain speed. Basically boils down to weight,frontal area, drag coeffiecent and a couple of minor other things. Depending on your gearing, shows why sometimes you can reach a high speed in a lower gear.
