Hey guys I’ve searched and could find and which Aussie locker are you guys running, ive seen conflicting results, aussies web site calls for the XD-13527 on their supplement guide for installing on a D35 TTB but on their site this doesn’t specify any ranger, but does say 88-97 Mazda pickup front locker, then on amazon they state this is for pre 93’ truck only...

But when you search a specific vehicle on their site they call for XD-13530 for 1997-2000 ford ranger front axle, which doesn’t seem right. I have read some people getting the wrong one. Anyone know which is the correct one?

thanks for any help

Yeah... there's some quirks.

'88 and older have Dana 28 front axles.
'89-92ish could have either a D28 or D35, depends on the engine the truck was built with
'93-97 probably has a D35 but some 4 cylinder trucks were built with a hybrid axle
'98 up has a D35 but it's an IFS D35, different than what's in your rig. "1997-2000" is wrong.
'88-97 Mazda is also very misleading, 1992 and older Mazda trucks are NOT in any way related to the Ranger platform. '93 and newer, they are the same truck.

You have the D35 TTB since you have a 4.0 truck, 1997 is the last year of that axle. I believe the XD-13527 part is the right one for your truck.

thank you Shran, I believe you are right and this is what I was leaning towards but I read one guys story on here who ordered one, happened to be wrong and Aussie wanted a restocking fee, so I was hoping someone knowledgeable like yourself would weigh in, thank you!

I’ll try to remember to check the parts list from my build when I get home tonight. Mine is a 93, D35 ttb . Should be same as yours

Thank you that would be great! Once I get confirmation I’ll order it tonight or tomorrow morning

I’m also working on a lead for an FX4 lvl 2 rear axle, so I may have to regear the front to match or ideally find a rare D35 pumpkin with stock 4.10s if not I guess I’ll rock the 3.73 until I really need/want to regear both to 4.56

we’ll see if this dude follows through with the axle though.....

I recall there was a change within the D35 carrier going from 1992-1993 (1990-1992 being identical to the Jeep D35 rear axle)... I want to say it had something to do with the cross shaft diameter, but I'm not familiar enough with both to know for sure. I know that doesn't really answer what pt# you need, but maybe it might help you to narrow it down some as to which one is correct.

This does not apply however if changing the whole carrier (I.E., Detroit Locker, ARB, etc.) the carrier's external dimensions did not change at all throughout the TTB years.

Also FWIW, 1994 was the first year for the RBV Mazda truck. Prior to '94 was the (completely different) Japanese-built model. So yeah, that applications sheet is definitely all screwed up. I would've raised hell if I had bought the part their sheet told me to buy, and then them wanting a restock fee upon returning it because their sheet was wrong. That's just bullshit.

This is what I installed. Works great.

Okay, another updates, i went and looked at my axles and my BOM number is 610652, which you can see on the last chart it does say 1997 ranger front, so this now tells me i need the XD-13530 locker for my truck, i also found the thread where the guy i was talking about (Legoms013) had a similar issue and i believe he is saying he had to get the XD-13530 as well for his 96 ranger. its a little hard to follow but i think he tried the XD-13527 and it didnt work.
Dana 35 Locker thread here

So i am waiting for the guys at Aussie to call me back and lets see what they say, but that chart i just found i think is the key to all this.

Let me know what you guys think.

well the FX4 axle was a bust, wasnt a level 2 even though the guy swore it was, i had him open the diff and NOPE, no Torsen.

anyways, one more point just to confuse it even more... i read the AUSSIE TTB supplement again for the XD-13527( which the rangerstation gets a little shout out in) but it says this... that the 13527 fits my truck lol. i am so damn lost with this company.

So i did get a call back for the people at Aussie, i can tell they do have wonderful customer service and that was very very refreshing after one of the worst exeriences with Skyjacker, SJ may be well built but the service is about as low as it can get unless they just never responded. Anyways back to the aussie, i was told that these later TTB's are hard because there are some variants she told me to probably go with what the BOM chart says (see above) and if thats wrong contact them and they will exchange it. Well it wouldnt get here for 7-10 days and i can get the proper lock-right here by friday so i ended up just going with the Lock-Right, i really wanted to go with the Aussie because i have heard good things but if i can get this whole front end done by next weekend ill be even happier. so without running either i would recommend both companies both were knowledgable, friendly and helpful.

but the lady helping me did give me this pictures which tell you exactly which one to get, the only caviat is you have to measure your spider gear to know for sure, so this helps if you dont mind having it dissasembled and then ordering, but i hope this following information was helpful and can help someone else with picking the right on the first time.

@Jim Oaks

You might want to look at this info for the tech section.

I would be confident in buying the XD-13527 for a '97 myself if Eric B successfully used it on his '93... The XD-13530 looks to me more likely that it's for the '98-'11 IFS D35.

Aussie is all sorts of screwed up on their applications...
The D35 TTB did not exist in anything before partway thru the 1990 model year,
The Mazda B-series before 1994 has nothing in common with Rangers,
The Navajo did not exist before 1991, or after 1994,
The TTB D35 is not found in '95+ Explorers,
There is no '91 Bronco II,
The fact they show a '97 Ranger D35 using the same pt# as any '95+ Explorer D35 is wrong.
BOM 610483 is a '95-'97 Ranger (not Explorer) ABS axle
There are probably many more I missed...

I've seen occasional errors here & there on many an app sheet for our trucks, but this one takes the cake for outright quantity by a long shot. :shok:
Perhaps they should've just studied up on that link they gave when they were writing up that app sheet. lol

Whoop,
Thread got active again while I was posting...
Lock-Right should do you fine also, they are basically the same thing. I've seen an occasional issue with the pins shearing on them, though I have a suspicion this might be installer error (probably not having the right size thrust washers in it if I was to guess).

I agree, this probably should be in the Tech Library if it isn't already. Though we should probably get clarification if this difference is between SLA IFS & TTB frontends, or if maybe this is the difference going between '92-'93 TTB frontends.

I think you'll be happy with the lock-rite. I like mine. The one thing, is that it doesn't unlock, like ever, which for me is not a big deal because virtually all of the miles it sees are offroad...but if you're in 2wd with the hubs locked, it has some very weird road manners. I hear this is not so much a thing with the Aussie so I'll be curious to see how you like your lock-rite.

This is exactly why I wanted the Aussie, it’s kind of what I read from others, I heard the Aussie is just smoother... damn it!! Now I’m conflicted lol. I am a person who likes to just do it right the first time and get what you want vs regretting you didn’t do it the way you wanted the first time around, I got the lock right on amazon prime so it is free returns if I just go with the Aussie
