Hey.

I'm getting a 01 mazda DS with a 3l. i'm looking at doing some mods to the motor and i was wodering which head casting makes the best power and if it's old will i be able to use my 01 intake manifold?

also i was playing with the idea of swapping in a 3.8 or 4.2. would i be able to use the factory wiring harness or would i have to do a frankenstein harness?

or would a 4.0 sohc be easier to swap in as far as the wiring harness goes?

For head castings your kinda stuck with what you got, they can swap but they are all essentially the same except if you have the FF version with just allows you to run E85. If you want performance heads and stuff for your 3.0L i would recommend going to Tom Morona.com (I think its called?) you can also get intakes and pistons and stuff.

A good mod you can do to your 3.0L would be the 01+ composite 2 piece intake manifold but you probably already have it...

As for the 3.8L or 4.2L swap I wouldn't bother, both make similar amounts of power and get similar mileage (better power and worse mileage then your 3.0L) and they are a pian to mount and stuff plus you would have to butcher your wiring harness if you didn't just take one from car you got your motor from. And alot of fab work probably.

The 4.0L SOHC would be the easiest swap, But I recommend getting a donor truck cause you are going to need just about everything from it...

The castings themselves haven't changed much, as mentioned. If you want to do your own porting/polishing, I've heard good things about Alabama Cylinder Head. Their castings are slightly thicker than stock from what I've read. If you'd rather just buy some performance heads, then moranav6racing.com is where you need to start/finish your shopping.
