Where do I connect this coolant hose to (1987 ranger)

Hi there, first time posting here. I am not mechanically inclined and could use some directions with an issue I have.

So the previous owner bypassed the heater core. Today I reconnected the heater hoses to the heater core. I am also simultaneously trying to replace a freeze plug. After I connected the heater hoses back to the heater core, I flushed the radiator using a garden hose and water has since been pouring out through this hose under the front passenger wheel well. The hose was already like this when I bought the truck. Right now I’m trying to figure out if I connected the heater core hoses wrong or if I’m missing something with this disconnected hose.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated as I am stuck right now. In the meantime I’m going to look through the repair manual.

That's a drain for the heater box. The fact that the PO had the heater core bypassed tells me that it's got a leak, and this pic confirms it. The bad news is that you need to replace the heater core, but the good news is that its really easy on these trucks!
 
Is that under the heater box? Looks like the drain for AC condensation to me, but I see you don't have AC. Is the passenger floorboard wet? I'm thinking the heater cores is still leaking...

Edit: Mostly redundant.^ However yeah changing that heater core is EASY. Take the hoses off under the hood. Open the glovebox and pull the sides in to get it to pop out. Then pull 3 screws out of the cover behind that. Congrats the heater core is out...

Hi, thanks for your reply. So far the passenger side in the cabin where the heater core is dry after pressure flushing the coolant system. What should I be looking for to figure out if the heater core is bad? Thanks

Wait, so I actually did a thorough check by the passenger side in the cabin and there is a little bit of a leak. If I were to change the heater core, would I have to worry about the hose below the heater core that drained a A bunch of water when I flushed it. Thanks for y’all help guys much appreciated.

Hi there, thanks for your insight. This truck doesn’t have an a/c compressor, although I’m not sure if it had one at some point (this is an XLT model if that means something). Turns out the passenger side in the cabin did get a little wet. Any idea what I would have to do to the hose below the heater box after I change the heater core? Thanks!
 
I wouldn't touch it. It's just a drain.

Change that heater core and go.
 
You have two screws that hold the glovebox door on. Remove your hoses and 6 screws hold the cover on. I think I got my last core from Orielly and it seemed to be good. The original core will have a foam cover on the top. Mime was so worn and distorted, I could not use it.

Use a T15 to remove glove box. Some signs of why lever is not working. It gets worse View attachment 126459
8mm to get 3 screws off of front of heater core and 2 more in the back. Remove cover. Already signs of a mouse making a home in here at one time. No idea how pencil was in there. View attachment 126460
Remove hoses under the hood and work core thru carefully and not spill fluid inside. View attachment 126461
I removed my Air Filter Bix and the 3 screws to get blower motor out. More debris. This is why my lever is not moving. Seen it on the Ranger. Will order a new Heater Core.

The 2nd picture is your heater core cover. Dont be surprised to see a bunch of debris in the system. I had a pencil in my ventilation system when I changed mine.
