wheel question for full width

I have searched but am trying to get a good idea of what 17x8 wheel back spacing
to run on a full width 78 dana 44?
I would run 15" rims but tires are getting limited outside of swampers in anything over
35s.

Depends on how wide you want your track width to be.

Something like 5.5" backspace would put the total package maybe 2-3 inches wider than stock...

Keep in mind more than 4.5" or so BS on a 8" rim will put the end of your locking hub outside of your wheel rim, making the hubs more vulnerable to trail damage.

FWIW, I believe most 17" wheels come in a 4" BS unless you specify differently (for 15s, 3.75" is the norm)

Thank you for the information on the wheels. I am hoping to stick to around the 4-3.75 back spacing in the rims. Like you said don't want your hubs out to get clipped etc.
