What's your TRS story??

I lurked for a couple years after I bought my first '88 in 2006 or 7. Had some high idle issues that I was trying to sort out. About that same time I had gotten interested in rock crawling and bought my '86 in 2008 and that is when I joined the forum. That was also about the same time that I joined a local offroad club and started reading a bunch of stuff on here that really got me excited. I signed up for a credit card, immediately bought a 6" Skyjacker lift and installed it in my driveway. After that it was a mad race to make it bigger & better and acquire as much additional junk and parts as I could store under my porch. Ended up doing a V8 swap and SAS with the support of the TRS community. Over the years I picked up a few other keepers, scrapped a lot of other RBVs which donated their organs to science or to keep others on life support and have a handful of local guys that call me for parts. Learned a lot along the way and TRS has been my constant companion throughout that - "Your Ultimate Ranger Resource" is very accurate.

i remember seeing this site in google searches, back when my dad had the plumbing company trucks, so it had to be in the early days of the site as i was taking care of them in the early 2k years. back then, all the forums were a different type of set up, what did they call it b2b or vbv, i cannot remember but they were basically light blue with a white area to type. no extra junk, not a lot of pictures, just reading. most sites were also run by children, it felt like because of all the petty comments and ganging up on new people. not being a fan of that type of place, i really never joined anything except e30tech.com, a bmw site that super cool and everyone was friendly, like here.

after the 15 e30s were sold and my yard was clear, i had my 98 mazda, single cab, standard transmission, 4 cylinder truck and the fuel gage never worked. i think i found on here someone talking about loosening the bed and tilting it up while the pulled the float/pump assembly and how easy it was. so i did the same thing but put a ch47 oil level float on the arm and now my gage worked. at 350k miles, or right around there, i needed a larger truck for car seats so i sold the mazda.

years later, and i mean like almost 2 years ago or so, my uncle got sick and had just bought this 04 single cab, step side, 5 speed ranger edge and needed to get rid of it. he thought he wasn;t going to make it and was trying to give it to me or my brother. i knew my brother was not going to take care of it and my uncle would almost definitely make it through his issues so i told him i would give him 3k for it and once he got better, if he wanted it back, he could just give me back the money.

he got better and got a new lariat hybrid maverick and i happily kept the ranger as i enjoyed driving, just like my old mazda.

oddly, i had not ever popped the hood so i assumed i had a 4 banger ranger, same as the mazda was but one day i was walking to my son and we were looking at the truck as it was idling and i commented on how much it sounded like a small v8 or a big v6 though i thought it was a 4 cylinder. so we popped the hood and to our surprise, we had a v6 truck!!

we would have found out at the oil change when we had to the wrong filters though, ha ha ha.

anyways, i had joined the forum finally and found it to be an almost identical feel as my long lost e30tech.com, like a family site.

so here i am. unable to provide any useful ranger stuff but i like to read along and ask questions about things. i am good at figuring stuff out in person but over the internet, not so good. luckily there are people here that are good at that though.

and i was wrong on the time frame. i got the truck in october 2021. so time flies while you are reading hte forums

I joined when I bought my first ranger to build for short course off road racing. I've had a lot of rangers and b2's run thru my hands. Became a mod to support the site. For over a year I was the only mod on site. Glad to see the site pick back up and new mods helping out.
Not driving an RBV at the moment but still have 5 out back, including the race truck. Concentrating on my Pinto at the moment.

I visited this site a few times over the years due to issues with the 04 Ranger I had.
sadly the 4.0 died & I was not willing to put more money into it. scrap yard took it.
I signed up here soon after buying a 2020 Ranger, lots of good information here (y)

I can't exactly remember how I came across this site. At the time, this was around 2006 or so when I had a 1995 Ranger, I must have been fooling around with google by putting in "Ford Ranger" to see what showed up on the internet at that time and discovered this web site.

Way back in the olden times I was on fordranger.com and TRS was mostly just the tech library I believe for the most part, started on there back in college when I just started and didn't really have much to do so I joined up and I was 18 at the time so hence the super simple username... I was young and dumb and knew almost nothing, barely did oil changes and tire rotating... then all these people online were talking about how simple it was to do some cool stuff and found out about these mystical turbo 2.3L's... anywho, over the years I signed up here, was a moderator for a couple years but more hobbies came into play, got a job, the software change in '07 or whatever I think that's when I wasn't a mod anymore... back in the day I was on RROC, TRS and BII.org mostly with some poorboyoffroad mixed in but that went down too with facebook like most forums... Around '11 life got complicated with a breakup and me always doing hackjobs on the Ranger and being broke from the succubus situation so I took a brake from most things. Eventually I got back in the swing of things and now I'm most active here again :)

There's some oldtimers that I sure do miss, I remember giving MAKG a hard time, one time us mods got together and changed his avatar for him with beeker from the muppets with a NASA logo on a lab coat if I remember right... he was always a serious dude but I think that made him laugh... I really miss DaveR and RedShred for all the Lima tomfoolery, Dave was really into the turbo 2.3L's and helped me through my swap... I don't miss the forum against forum drama that was happening there for a bit but I barely remember anything about that... There were a lot of good times in the weekly chats.

I'm paraphrasing a lot of that obviously since it spans right around 24 years...

Unfortunately I haven't met any active members in a long time since no one is in this area or even close and my work trips are too short notice and obviously during the work week so that hasn't worked either... My Ranger was broke and I was poor at the time the banner was making it across the country and was stuck in my area or I would have helped there...

And Rusty and I usually closed out the chats on chat night for whatever reason, that guy likes staying up late I guess :)

Ford is in my family, as I have owned ford my whole life. I bought my 95 2.3 5spd ranger used over 25 years ago. Recently purchased a well loved 97 3.0 automatic. Wasn't ever really into forums much. Always had my own ways of researching things, I needed advice for my 97 as swapping a 5spd into a ranger that is an automatic. Never done a swap like this so I needed help. You guys are great.

My beginning here wasn't bright as I pursued another member about his truck. After a few warnings I backed off. Enjoy being here.

OMG I remember that. Classic. MAKG could be funny when he forgot where or who he was.

AllanD was another huge goldmine for Ranger info.

Anybody remember the Turkish hack?

It's been a little while since he's been on. I see posts by him from time to time on facebook. So, he is still alive and kicking.
