iv always wondered what the difference is beetween an xlt and a regular ranger/ bronco 2, from what i can tell the difference is an xlt comes factory with aluminum wheels, and has the steering wheel that you can pull the little lever thing back and tilt the wheel up and down.

It's really a meaningless trim level thing. My truck is an XLT, manual everything, steel rims, and no tilt column.

There are some options that were only available on certain trim levels, but that doesn't mean a vehicle actually got those options.

eh i have an 88 XLT ranger and it has power windows/locks and the trim on the bottom of the body other than that i'm not sure what else it would have that a norm wouldn't. as for my wheels they are stock but i am not that good at telling steel from aluminum

The 5-spoke mags were the only aluminum rims offered on the Gen 1s.

ahh my take on trim levels: its something that some ford guys cooked up to make it sound fancy and justify higher cost for it by having cool stuff with it.

No, they had wheels with larger round holes too (compared to the later Outlaw II style)

My 1st '97 XLT had the aluminum rims, with the "deer hoofprint" pattern. Manual everything. Tilt steering. No extra trim. Single driver airbag. 2WD ABS.

Nothing. I don't even know if my current 2nd '97 is XLT or not. Don't care. Makes no difference. BTW, it has power everything, and passenger airbag.

My ext cab is an xl and I dont have the rear jumpseats. I have manual everything, except 4x4. of course ford coulnt put hte manual tcase and hub in there.

I've had seven ext cab XLT's since '87' and options really vary. Jump seats are an option like the rear sliding window, pull out cover to hide what's behind the seats or the inside small net for gloves and such. All but one had manual windows & locks. My 2000 4x4 does not have the "Oh Crap" grab bars but the '03' 2x4 does. The '03' also does not have a CD player but a cassette tape in it. Have no idea how the buyer got that option. When I ordered a 4x2 2000, could only get the L/S in a 3.55 gear but was available in a 4x4 in several ratios. The newer the truck, the less you could mix and match options to the model. Last two years, very little picking what you wanted for some options. Really sad to see how the Rangers have gone down hill with options and to see it disapperar.
