I'm looking for the best truck I could buy under 10k that gets 30MPG. Does it exist?
I know I'd love to have a 2wd 4bt ranger but they are never for sale. Or a 2.3 turbo ranger but same problem.

I keep coming up with nothing, something nice not worth less than 5 or 6k.

a tricked out luv hahaha jk i dont really know, my buddies 2.3 ranger gets 28 hwy but isn't nowhere near 5-6k

25 yrs ago, VW sold a pickup.. IIRC you could get it with a diesel.

Gotta love the rabbit pickups. They did offer a diesel engine option that would put you well over 35 mpg. plus I see low mileage ones in good condition going for around 3k

a 2wd reg cab short bed 01-11 with the duratec 4. If you're really careful you can bust the 30 mpg mark. Ive gotten as high as 36 mpg, but that was under somewhat controlled and favorable circumstances.

VW diesel. Not much to look at but get great mileage. My GF just bought the VW TDI. She's been getting about 60mpg on road trips. About 45 in the city. I was thinking about finding a VWdiesel engine and installing it into a BII.

95-97 ranger, reg. cab, step side bed, 2wd.

5.0 mustang swap, gt40p heads, explorer intake + tb, stock h.o cam with 1.7 rr, t5 tranny, explorer rearend with 3:27's.

Should be able to get close to 30 mpg with that.

Go some where where cars dont rust and get a Datsun or Toyota, doesnt really matter which from the 70s or 80s , Use remaining budget to put front disc brakes in. Replace stuff as needed with newer stuff. 4cylinder manual trans , no frills. Or for 20K buy a stripper Taco. Old Sammies fit the bill but are tiny and tippy.

Depending on what you want for a truck but Subaru made the Baja thing a few years ago, being mostly car they should have gotten pretty decent milage.

Another thing to remember usually gas is cheaper than diesel, so if a diesel gets 30mpg but a gas gets 28mpg it may still be cheaper to go with the one that gets 28.
