I have 1996 Ford Ranger XL 2.3L 2wd and my ac doesn't work. I want to just dump the ac.

Besides getting a shorter drive belt without ac what other problems changes need to be made or are involved? Are there any combined function parts like say is the heating intwined with ac or radiator intwined with condensor? the black box on the passenger side? Also will any codes come up after removal that i need to worry about?

Basically Can i just gut everything involving ac out, and what should I watch out for?

not sure about the 2.3, in the 4.0 you would just have to get the compressor out of the way and run the belt for no a/c.

If the bearing in the clutch is still good, it really isn't going to cost you anything as far as from the engine to just leave it retired in place. I would pull the plug on the clutch so its not trying to run and call it a day

I pulled the a/c on my '92, and it went without any problems at all. Ripped out the compressor, got a shorter belt; pulled out the accumulator from the heater box (passenger side black plastic box). Still have to get the condensor out from in front of the radiator and get a non/ac heater box though. Anyways, yea, it's an easy process - free up some space in the engine bay and lighten your truck a bit (especially important if you have a 3.0 like mine - acceleration = 0).
