Hey all. Just wondering here, which exhaust would sound the best on a V8 Ranger, but not be too loud or sound too much like an offroad truck. I'm looking for something with a deep throaty sound, but not too much noise in the cab. This will be going on a street truck, so the insanely loud off road appeal of some exhausts will just sound ridiculous on it.

I also would like to do duals. Not just a Y pipe, but the actual exhaust having two exits.

i suggest a welded dynomax 3 in...with a single 3 in...or an aeroturbine setup the same...uals dont do much for me anymore...i like the better sound and low end of the 3 in with mild engine...unless your over 350 hp...then do an x into two welded dynomax units

quiet till you rip into it...my favorites

The engine will be a stockish 1999+ Explorer 5.0 EFI engine into a 1998+ Ranger. I don't plan on doing too many performance modifications to it.

With true dual exhaust you will lose some low end torque. At least run an X-pipe to help with exhaust scavenging and pressure balancing. BobbyWalter mentioned dynomax in which I will give a big +1 to. Also, look into borla mufflers. They have a beautiful tone. Another great sounding muffler is the flo-pro. I run this on my V8 dual 2.5" exiting infront of the rear tires on both sides.

I've heard some pretty nice Borlas a while back, and I just looked into the flow-pro. They look like a cheaper version of the Flowmasters?

just research some different types. I personally like flowmasters..but depends if you are going an economic route or not. check out summitracing.com for some different types. I hear dynomax is a pretty decent muffler for its price. I also like the idea of dual pipes :headbang:. are you planning on true duals ( two pipes, two mufflers etc right from the manifolds/headers) or just one inlet dual outlet? of all the 5.0L i have heard, each one has a different tone/volume. it really is hard to say which one is quieter/better sounding than the other. Depends how hard you plant the loud pedal lol :D

Flowmasters sound nice.... but everyone has them so if you're looking to stand out don't count on them. The Flo-pro mufflers do not have the flowmaster sound. They are very mellow when cruising but hit 3K under full throttle and they throw one hell of a "In your chest" powerful note. Even though their oval design resembles flowmaster I would say they sound closer to borla exhausts. Maybe a little throatier.

i prefer the sound of the flopros over the flowmaster...i ran them in true dual form for years...just like flomaster and the welded dynomax they are very tough, i was actually able to smash on them more with no rips over the masters.

i am over 800 k...600+ with v8 exaust on my ranger and have had a few different setups to say the least.

my current diesel engine dont sound too bad with the dynomax from my 302 on it either...of course the 302 sounded better:icon_thumby:

my d max was over 90 bux...so i dont consider those budget...but i am gettin my money out of it

I'm on the Flopro website, they look pretty decent and don't seem to have insanely high price tags on them. Hell, I might even get one for my current Ranger.

Psst (I run 2 flo-pro 2.5" on my V8 ranger and one 2.5" SIDO on my 3.0L. Makes the 3.0 sound mean)

I have apair of these and really like the sound

however they are on a built 351, so the cam may be adding a lot to the sound. but it's nice to have the option to be loud or relatively quiet.

also I agree with everyone who mentioned using the x-pipe. don't think I'll ever run a v-8 without one again.
