What is normal coolant temp for 2001 4.0 ?

anyone know what the normal coolant temp in degrees should be ?
2001 Ranger 4.0
my son has one of the laser testers and im gonna chk it this eve.
i checked the fan clutch and it seems ok.
i let it idle yesterday with cardboard in front of radiator and gauge went to almost 1/4 up.
without cardboard it barely moves.

also ordered a new temp sensor in case the old one is weak(do they get weak or just stop working ) ?

Temp ranges from 195 to 210 depending on load.

Mine stays a pretty even 190 most times but yeah, 195-210 is normal range.

if the truck doesnt reach temp without cardboard, your thermostat is stuck open and you probably have the heat in the truck on. combined, the truck will take a long time to warm up, and it will get horrible MPG. pull the T-stat to see if shes stuck open or damaged. its a $15 part thats a good idea to change on a tune up.
