So as some of you may remember about 8 months ago I got my juvenile record sealed (felony) just in time for a job at atk.

Today and went and talked to a recruiter and he looked me up on the Idaho state judiciary and found my sealed records. Said he couldnt view them but could see that they were sealed. He claims he was just searching as a citizen. After this I got on my phone and searched myself. Didn't find any thing of it. Since then I've bought a gun and gotten a job at 2 different company's that work with explosives and do federal back ground checks.

I guess that's pretty good they are sealed for good because they get pretty snoopy. So having your records sealed allows you to buy firearms?

Far as I new you couldn't own a fire arm as a felon... I got mine sealed and bought a .270 the next day

What I'm wondering is how he could still see it. I can't find it. He even named off stuff from way back.

There supposed to have that stuff hidden aren't they?

The letter I got said the only time it can be seen is when a court order is issued. So a warrant issued for my record. He couldn't view the contents but could see that there was a felony.

So he says I still have a felony. But I've done things felons can't do. So I say I don't.

I asked how he could see it if its sealed. He just replied "there never truely sealed"

That doesn't surprise me now a days. You can't hide anything because it will never truly be hidden.

So what's the kick? Is he gonna deny you something cause he can see a sealed felony record under your name? If he can see/find that, he's probably searching as more than a private citizen, don't think criminal records are public records unless you are convicted...regardless of your age. That's why after a few years supervised, you can get a conviction, etc., expunged from your record...unless your a repeat, convicted, time-serving felon...that stays with you for life...to the grave.

What the recruiter is saying is that he see's there are sealed records. They can't be viewed as to what is in those records unless a court order unseals them.

If you are looking into getting into the military, it shouldn't be a problem. I've seen circumstances with waivers that they've let some pretty interesting people into the military at times with some not so great backgrounds.

Didn't you believe them when they said it would go on your permanent record? Being sealed doesn't mean it goes away.

There used to be a time in history....if you was in trouble with the law, you had the option( given by the judge) of jail/prison...or go into the military.
But that came to a end years ago...

yup...got ina little hometown jam, judge hitched me up with Uncle Sam, gonna fight and kill the yellow man....Born in the USA. Now you're worth more as a warm body in a private prison than as part of the workin military.

What branch? The Corps will let you in with waivers for just about anything, but getting the waivers can be a bitch. The army will hand out waivers like candy (mostly medical though). It shouldn't make a difference anyway since it happened as a juvenile and was sealable. If you actually want to get in the Corps you can be down at MCRD SD in 4 months...

He can see it even though no one else can. So hecsaid I was denied

Talk to the corps recruiter next door. I haven't had any trouble with the law, but they didn't even find my traffic ticket.

Why join the army anyway.
