i got a explorer 8.8 and im want to put 4.56 gears and a mini spool or full spool (haven't diecied yet) but what else do i need to get to finish the axle? i know i asked in another thread but they were talking about split carriers on a d35. i want to get it done so it can be under my truck and get the whole bi-atch truck together before New Years? what do i need to buy besides gears and my spool? an install kit?, new carrier? yatta, yatta ...ect i need help please thanks

You will need an install kit, which usually contains new hub seals, gaskets, shims, bearings, etc. Your carrier should be ok if it isnt damaged or warped. If you plan on using the spool, put a few ounces of friction modifier in. Are you using if for street/strip or offroad/crawling? Spools are good for straight lines because both halves of the axle turn at the same speed, so the wheels will never go different speeds. If you're using it for offroad, go for a locker instead, they apply a bit more locking force, but will still allow wheels to turn at different speeds, generally applying more torque to the wheel with the most grip. You will need to put friction modifier in with a locker as well. While everything is apart, you might want to spice things up a bit with a chrome or powdercoated diff cover from Purple Cranium Products. I love mine!

No new carrier. If you get a full spool you don't need any carrier, mini-spool will use your existing carrier. L/S additive isn't needed for either a locker or a spool (that's why it's called limited slip additive)

Install kit
mini or full spool
gear
gear oil

That should be it.

A full spool requires a c-clip eliminator kit and mini spools are weak, I'd sooner weld it than do either of those.
f you're using it for offroad, go for a locker instead, they apply a bit more locking force,
Lol explain this.
You will need to put friction modifier in with a locker as well.
