What color paint was the truck from the factory?

Is there any way to tell other than the sticker on the door? I've been trying to find out what color paint the truck originally had. The title says GY which I assume means gray. The truck is and was when I got it red primer. The primer has chipped off in placed and there is black under it. Just went to check the door sticker and it lists 51 whick is red, but the truck is an '87 and the door sticker lists 5/86 as the date of manufacture and the vin is wrong on the sticker as well so I think the door has been replaced.

Vin check, or you can just scrape down until you find bare metal and go with the last color you see before primer grey.

check somewhere that isnt linkely to have been repainted... between the bed and the cab, between the inner and outer fender, inside the engine bay, inside the cowl, under the carpet, behind the dash etc

If you call a ford dealer with the vin number, they should be able to give you the paint code.
