I'm wondering what type of speakers are the stock speakers in a 2001 Ranger?
I had the door panels off to repair the door latch linkage and saw a felt-covered speaker in the door.
I did not peel the felt back to look.

Is it a full-range speaker with a "whizzer cone" like is pictured in this thread?

Thanks,
Eric

They should be 5x7/6x8 full range (coaxial) speakers.

My OE 5x7 2-ways rears were pretty poor quality paper cone w/a paper tweeter but buzzed something awful. The support fabric was semi deteriorated. I moved the front upgraded Sony 4-way 5x7's to the rear doors and cut in some 6x9 Infinity Kappa's for the fronts.

I just installed a new Pioneer double-DIN radio and now I'm wanting new speakers.
I used a Metra 95-5600 dash kit and it worked really well - very tight and covered all the gaps.

I'd really like to hear speakers before buying them, but there aren't that many local stores with car stereo demo systems any more.
Even my closest Best Buy had a very limited display system - only 6.5 inch round 2-weay speakers - no 6x8s.

I found a model with tilt-able tweeters. I wonder how well they would do, getting the highs from the driver's door, up to my ears?

I'd do components before looking for tiltable tweeters inside the mains.

I installed separates in my last car. There are some downsides to separates.
1. It's more installation work
2. it's an alert to thieves that there's more than just stock stereo equipment in the car

Before I go separates again, I want to explore mounting speakers in the stock locations, only.
