I remember back in my drifting days those of us who were too poor to afford a proper LSD welded our open diffs into a locker. I distinctly remember my tires chirping in parking lots.

For those of us who aren't looking to go mudding or crawling, is welding the 7.5 a viable option to achieve the simulated lock?

For the foreseeable question of why I want a locked diff: Because drift truck.

But you have an automatic: For now..

Well, shoot. I should've just went straight to YouTube.

Ah yes, the Lincoln Locker!

I've heard that filling the carrier with lead works as well.

I've made my own limited slip on two different drop out third members, one 9" and one d28. Both worked. I got the idea from an old hot rod mag from the late 70's. Basically add an extra side gear shim behind each side gear. It puts extra stress on the gears so potentially could break, but I never had a problem. And apparently they will wear down within 10-20 thousand miles back to an open diff. But its cheap. And you can still turn corners without chirping tires.

... like molten lead lol, so it fills up the carrier solid. It's apparently easier on the gears than getting them hot enough to take a good weld which would make stuff brittle. Never seen the method in action so I'm not sure the exact process.

I've heard about "shimming the diff" but never really looked into it.
