Our van has started making weird noises lately, the first is a weird squel/screech, second is a howl at low rpms.

Here is a video of the first noise,

I can't get a video of the howl because it doesn't get picked up on any videos I take

that screech is the starter, what year is the van?

howl is likely rear end bearings...sounds like the starter is hanging in the clip i played.

do you have a d70 60 61 or 60u?

i assume its a full floater.

Well it does the howl while sitting in park and drive.

trans pulling away from the engine?

likely the tq converter or flex plate issue in that case?

maybe the trans pump....plugging filter screen or loose filter screen in the trans....

have to be there to really get the jist of it ya know?

I don't believe the trans is pulling away, ill have to look tomorrow.

I guess i should have been a bit more specific with the howl. If i take the intake inlet off and put my hand over it it quites the howl. I have looked some stuff up and some say it might be the IAC.

Also it is an 04 with a 5.4 auto.

:shok:

stock air box?

there is a plastic silencer that is part of that scenario that may be missing. study it carefully.

i have see a few different deals...wierd looking

Ill have to take a look at it tomorrow. It is confusing :dunno:

most of the time the silencer is part of the intake tube and cannot be removed without adding a piece into it, The Iac does pull air directly from the intake tube which may serve to amplify it, if it is going bad.

How do you test a IAC, it doesn't affect peformance as far as I can tell. Just ungodly annoying

Well it idles ok so the iac might not be the problem. I did take the whole intake off all the way back to the throttle, i didn't see anything that would obstruct air flow. After i put it back together it seemed to do it less frequently but came back the next day.

no cel?

no cracks/splits or tears?
