Weird E350 Noises

Wow, didn't think it had been this long since i messed with this. It still does it, as far as i can tell no cracks in the intake and i get no cel :icon_confused:. This van i starting to piss me off, it started making a clicking noise on the passenger side until it warms up :annoyed:

The drone noise also seems to be weather dependent, it does it more often when it is warm out then when it is cold.

An exhaust manifold with broken studs and/or a crack will sound much like a bad lifter until it gets warm and it seals itself by expanding.

That is exactly what is is :annoyed:, took a look at it yesterday, the top back bolt on the passenger side snapped off .

Could the noise in the video be the idler pulley or belt tensioner?

I have to agree with the others and point at the starter.

It could be in the ring gear too, the ring gear in my 2.8 would slowly torture starters to death. I think it ate three of them over 10 years, eventually they would bind up and pull enough current they would temporarily weld the relay closed and wouldn't quit cranking.

One time it did that to me in a restart situation at a stop light, it really did not like it when I drove with it (I was very irritated I might add) with the starter fighting the engine just to get it out of the way... the engine won. The starter sounded very odd after that... even odder than normal. :icon_confused:
