Warranty questions

Will a body lift and new exhaust void my warranty? this is my first new truck so I really have no clue about warrantys. So any input will help thank you

probably, anything aftermarket if not done by Ford and recommended by Ford, usually does.

call your dealer and ask, you don't have to mention who you are... lol. just incase you wanna do it anyways with out red flagging you instantly.

i know for a fact jeep is really bad about this, they will void warrenties if your skids are scratched from being off road or if its lifted w/ a non mopar lift installed by the stealership.. and most new car dealers are the same way from what i've seen.

Any modification as involved as you are talking about without a prior approval from Ford ( I would get it in writing) will void the warranty for sure. Think about it. The first thing they look at when you take it in for warranty work is how to get out of them having to cover the cost of repair, and make you pay for it!

Well...at the dealership I work at anyways....if the modification is the cause of the issue you are having generally they won't cover it. Like if you put a suspension lift and bigger tires on it and then you have ball joint/ wheel bearing issues you are out of luck depending on your dealers attitude towards it. Ford doesn't know its lifted unless we tell them, so most of the time we'll just do the work anyways. We get payed, and you're happy.

I wouldn't be too concerned about a body lift and exhaust.

Google the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. The dealer legally CAN'T void you warranty completely because of aftermarket modifications. Like Sasquatch said, if the modification is the cause of the problem, then yes it won't be covered. However, if you have a problem completely unrelated to the modification, like a suspension lift and you start having electrical or engine problems (completely unrelated to the suspension) then they can't deny your warranty claim.

ford has to prove that your modification was a direct contributor to the cause of the problem. for instance, they cant say your engine blew because your truck is body lifted.

a friend of mine has a 3" BL and exhaust and oversized tires. his warranty is fine!

i have 3" front lift, 4" rear lift suspension, and 32's. a power programer, k&n intake, plugs and wires. my warranty is mint. they tried pulling shit over on me once. they never did it again. it pays to know the rules, and call them on it when they dont follow them.

dealers are sneaky, so be careful. id go to them and ask if it would void it. which ever dealer says no, take it there.

What you are planning won't void the warranty. As said before, the mods have to be the direct cause of the failure in question or Ford has to cover it.

Powertrain wise (engine, clutch, trans, axles...) they have a really easy cop out though. Bigger tires increase stress on everything. That is expensive stuff I would just as soon somebody else pays for if I had a problem.

Can't blame them a bit. They didn't build it that way, the customer did. Switch places, you build something and somebody buys it, messes around with a bunch of stuff breaks it and then demands you fix it. How would you like it? Would you eagerly whip out your checkbook and "make it right"? It is not a fair thing to expect.

They are going to laugh in your face if you bring up Magnuson-Moss Act for something that is related. However if they try to get out of paying for a bad interior door handle because it has a lift kit they have nothing to stand on.

The dealer might step up if they like you, but you can't always depend on that either.

I have seen it things get rejected because of modifications and it isn't worth the risk to me... I would wait until the warrenty is up.
