Ok I have a 2000 Ranger XLT Ex-Cab 4x4 w/ a 5 speed. I just bought a 19 1/2ft Bayliner Ski boat lastweek. Well I took it to the lake this weekend about 30 miles from my house and the truck performed well. Although pulling up a few hills here and there I wasn't too sure at times. The question that I have is, What can I do to give me just a little more power when towing my boat. The truck is all stock. My thought was a K&N a/f and maybe an exhaust. Any thoughts guys???

not alot to do with the 3.0L unfortunately. you could do headers, gasket match and polish intake and heads. they have 1.6, 1.7, or 1.8 rocker arms at tom morana. then you can get n exhaust, and intake. but the biggest difference will be if you get it tuned after all that. don't get a jet chip, take it somewhere and hav them tune it.

The best simple bolt on's for the 3.0 are imo:
1. Underdrive pulley's from stuffforyourranger.com
2. cat back exhaust
3. an SCT tuner from rogueperformance.com (Fred offers mileage, performance, and torque/towing tunes for various fuel types, and he can account for any other mods you may have)
4. 1.7 or 1.8 rollers would be a nice upgrade as well, but a little more involved to install

I don't think headers are worth the money unless you're running forced induction, or you can find a set for a couple hundred $$ on ebay.

If you want to go big time, you could always put a whipple on! (if you can find one)

Thanks for the info guys, I think I'll just leave the whipple on my Cobra, LoL
I have a Sct X3 on my Cobra and my GT. Any idea what the truck would pick up with Sct?

Just for future refereance. I just ordered the 1.8:1 Rolloer Rockers from Tom this morning, he said those are the only rockers that are offered now. The others tow (1.6:1 and 1.7:1 were not worth the money). He also mentioned sending him my throttle body and he would open it up for $180. He said those are the two biggest things for the performance things to do to this motor before getting into big $$ like a stroker kit. Hope that helps.

I can give you my thoughts of the 1.8:1's in a few days after i do the install if you'd like. Which is pretty simple.

just put a good cold intake and put the octane booster in the gas tank

Octane booster is garbage and a waste of money.

Underdrive pulley, electric fan and composite upper are my top 3 recommendations.

If your truck is flex fuel, run E-85 when towing. It'll add a little HP and TQ.

If done as a group installing an E-fan, opening up your airbox, and doing the MAF, hot water bypass, and throttle cable mods will give you a small but worthwhile gain in power, especially in the low end at throttle tip in.

Gears or even shorter tires.. Next thing is keep it in a lower gear longer to keep the revs up. All the other suggestions MIGHT help at much higher rpm but not for low rpm pulling.
