I'm thinking about buying a molded replacement vinyl replacement floor covering for my truck. The carpets are stained and have cigarette burns from the previous owner. How I use my truck would make vinyl floor more practical. My question is has anyone placed one of these replacement vinyl floor coverings on top of the original carpet? I was thinking that the insulation and sound deadening of the old carpet would be advantageous but am unsure if the vinyl would fit properly. Has anyone out there tried this? Thanks in advance.

i'm thinking that with the vinyl on top, if any moisture gets in there, it's gonna have a hard time evaporating, and the carpet might start molding.

just rip the old carpet out.......?

x2 just rip the carpets out, then go to home depot, and get some scrap carpet padding.

My original vynl floor has sound deadening stuff on the back. Dunno if the aftermarket stuff does or not.

I've looked a bit and can't find a molded rubber floor for my 93 Ranger clubcab.

Does anybody have a link?

You can also use a sound deadining insulation from a spray can. These do work for sound, not sure if they contain a thermal factor?

Vinyle floors can be an unholy mess....... at least with carpet you can wet vac. All the mudding I do and then melted snow........ I'm pretty sure I will never get all the mud and dirt out from around the door lip.

I miss having carpet. But I could be the odd man out on that debate.

the entire floor of mine was bed lined before new carpeting went down. then i got deep rubber floor mats to go on the carpeting. if you want sound deadening you can go to ebay and look up Dynomat or one of the cheaper knock-offs for that. i've got Rattletrap on my roof and behind the seat. works pretty good as my interior is all factory bare metal.
