vaccuum question

What is it and where does it connect to? Thus vaccum is right next to the distributor and looks like a canteen with a spout.. the spout is pointed to the rear of the motor
 
That is a crankcase ventilation canister and there is a hole under the intake manifold that allows air pressure to go up while trying to keep the oil in the crankcase.

It is also where your PCV connects to allow the air pressure to be drawn into the intake to help burn off any impurities before they hit the exhaust system.
 
So then the vac line on the bottom o the manifold is where that plugs into?
 
The vac line can go anywhere on the manifold...goes to the base of the carb on carburetor engines and usually an inlet on the throttle body for fuel injected engines. Does the same thing on either.
