Hi guys I recently picked my old bronco II up that I had in high school tracked it down. I’m want to do a v8 conversion with a auto transmission and manual transfers case, but I can really find any info on what trans and transfer case to use thanks guys

C5 and NP205. Heavy sum bits but they fit and work.

Yes +1 ^^^

If you get a V8 explorer AWD as a donor you would use a BW4406 manual transfer case

Explorers V8s were all automatics, but it needs to be an AWD(4x4) version to mount manual shift transfer case to it.

If you are going to build a carb/distributor V8 then you will want an AOD automatic for 302/5.0l engine from a 4x4, full size Broncos used these, nice to have Overdrive
Not AODE trans, that needs a computer

Then you use a BW1356 manual transfer case, you could use the Ranger BW1350 or 1354 with the AOD but with V8 power it could fold up on you

Anytime you shop for a manual shift transfer case you need to get ALL of the shifter parts and if possible the Boot used inside the cab
These parts are impossible to find now, you have to make your own

That is an odd combo.

205 fits nice, can take a little work to fit on a newer trans. Check out my build thread, I just put one on a M5R2 out of a 04 F150.

Then the explorer 5.0 is probably the best fitting donor engine. If you can figure out the electrical side, using the Explorer's EFI and 4r70w transmission wouldn't be a bad option either. Those Explorers can be had for cheap these days and still in decent mechanical shape.

I have been daily driving a '00 Explorer with a somewhat built 4r70W and a manual 4406 T case for over a year now, not the cheapest DD but a cush ride! I'm loving the 4r70W with shift kit, does what I want except downshift to 1st but that's a shift kit thing, it's hard on the trans... If you can find one a 4407 T case would be better with the fixed rear output but since that's a '98 F250 only thing they are like hens teeth...

According to most, the 4406 is the best small block ford auto trans...

not a fan of the 5.3 or 6.0 gm's?

a 5.3 and 4l80 with a 241 case would be great power over the 302. modern tuning support for the platform is glutenous...

i am a fan of them.

the new coyote 5.0(current 2017 up version) is rather impressive as well...but that is expensive.

the hemi....can be cheap...but they are hokey.

just expanding the conversation.

Coyote is physically huge too. They run good though.

The thing about the Chevy engine and transmission i would have to completely make everything custom.

If you get a donor couldn’t you just yank the ecm and the transmission control from the donor?

Does it have to be an (AWD) or ccould it be 4x4?

no such thing as a factory 4x4 V8 explorer, they're all AWD, any 4x4 Explorer will be a 4.0L. I had to convert mine to 4x4 which wasn't too hard

custom everything?

with a bronco 2, an explorer engine is not necessarily a bolt in swap. oil pan and exhaust for power levels a 5.3 puts out...not exactly factory.
