I’m looking to purchase a used engine for a 1990 Ford ranger 4.0 V6 OHV. I just want a better understanding on a used engine if I buy a complete used engine, what does that mean as far as what it comes with and what parts will I need? I’m looking at an engine right now from Jasper engines.

Only way to really answer that is talking to wherever you area buying from. It can vary from long block to fully dressed.

I bought a junkyard engine that was "drop in ready" and it didn't have the driver's side of the FEAD.

Front End Accessory Drive - the bracketry and pulleys for alternator, water pump, power steering, A/C compressor, idler and tensioner.
