Urgent Need of Help

Please help me, my trucks been down for several months, been walking to work and winter is fast approaching. I'll start with saying I have a 1989 Ford Ranger. I ran out of gas. Dumb move, I know. But now it won't start. I replaced fuel filter and then fuel pump. Both have failed to start. I turn off inertia switch, can't hear fuel pump. Turn it on and I can. So everything should be all wired correctly I would imagine. I just don't know what else it could be. Please help!!

well it sounds like you are getting fuel out of the tank.

what about spark? check to see if you have that. If you don't have spark, If I were to take a wild @ss guess, I would say your TFI module died...if you have spark, then look at the pressure of the fuel at the fuel rail. should be over 40psi.

If you have pressure at the rail, check to see if the injectors are firing.

is the 89 single or dual fuel pump setup? is it possible that if dual fuel pump setup that only the low pressure pump was replaced when the high pressure pump was really the problem?

Try to start it and then pull a plug and see if it is wet with fuel. If it is you have fuel getting in there. If no you still have a fuel problem; if yes its time to check for spark.

Or spray starter fluid into the air intake tube at the air filter. If it starts or tries to start you know you have some sort of spark and air. So its fuel that you are missing.
