Hi everyone,

can anyone identify the attached rusty piece of a part (AA battery for scale) from my 2021 Ranger?

Found what you see on the photo and more pieces like it in my driveway. Completely rusty, breaks by just picking it up.

Thanks!

Probably from your wife's/daughter's boyfriends car.

I don't think that is off a 3 year old car.

That makes sense. Could be from my wife's car, although the place I found it in doesn't really work too well for that.

If anyone recognizes it, let me know :)

Here's another picture.

my first guess is brake dust shield (on a 40 year old vehicle).... my 1948 dropped bits that looked just about exactly like that before I did an axle swap.

It’s a piece of sheetmetal.
Backer plate for a disc brake, part of a fender ect

Thank you for your replies. It's not 40 years old, but it really seems to come from my Ranger as my wife's car never went the place I found them... I'll take (another) look at my car.

Like the first guy said, that is not from a 3 year old vehicle, there's just no way. I'd look at every other thing that crossed that path first, old wheelbarrow you used in the garden, kid's 40 year old hand me down tricycle, etc etc - anything except a new truck.

Understood. Strang thing is: I found one piece on Monday (see photo), looked over the whole driveway and thought I found nothing else. Then on Monday night I found a few more pieces in a spot I should definately have seen in the morning. Nothing else was in the driveway that day.

But you guys make sense. Maybe it was just in the ground and the rain made it appear or I just didn't notice it in the morning.

Almost looks like the backer for a wheel weight.

Good idea. As I just got my wheels 6 months ago, those really couldn't come from my car and look (and break) like that.

Looks like a wheel weight or brake drum weight.

Took a look at some breight drums online. They do look quite rusty after 100k km / 60k miles, so maybe it could be from my car? Can I check the brake drums' weights without taking off the tires?

Depends on the style of wheel, like if you can see the brake drum through it, but probably not.

I tried, but saw nothing unusual. I guess I will just leave it at that and watch for more pieces in the future 🔭 Thank you guys!
