Trying to identify options

I just picked up a 88 regular cab, short bed, 2WD. It needs front shocks, so I went to buy and was asked if it had the "hi-rider" option? It does sit high for a 2WD, so I wasn't sure. Also not sure if engine is 2.0 or 2.3. Does anyone know where I can get a "decoder" to check out the vin # and figure out what I have. The truck runs great, solid frame, minor rust for it's . :icon_confused:

The "Hi-Rider" package was an option only on 4x4's, so your 2wd would not have it.
The Tech Library may have engine VIN codes.
The 2.0 was only available in the strippo Ranger S, a short bed 4x2 with painted bumpers and grille, no A/C, 4 speed manual transmission, and manual steering and brakes. Even so, a base model Ranger XL might have that equipment, or lack thereof, and have a 2.3 engine.
