Hello everyone. Hope all is well. my 1999 ford ranger which we use for our business the driver was reporting that the truck stalled while driving. He was able to make a u turn without hitting someone in the rear.

He called me and told me what it was doing. Simply died.He tried to sart it, it started right up and the same would comtinue to happen. I told him to tap on the MAF as I was in the warehouse yesterday and started the vehicle twice and it ran very rough and shakey, the same as he is reporting. He said that worked but it would die again after 3 mins or so. I went and got him, and replaced the MAF and he was able to get it back to the garage.

I got the vehicle ready for the next days work this morning and that same shakey feeling happened, even after replacing the MAF. Things I have noticed. Radiator was banging or popping. I had just filled it up with water, so i know its not leaking out, and the Battery light is on. I just replaced the altenator. Is it possible the alt could be causing the occasional shaking and rough idle. It will seem like it runs ok for a bit than wham its shaking and spitting and dies.

I took back to the mechanic, and hes gona look at it.

Any suggestions?

You just replaced some water?....so it leaks! I just cooked a motor because I ignored the popping and gurgling that the motor was doing, and that should have told me to check the water again.
If the battery is low enough it would could cause rough running, but the starter wouldn't turn over again when trying to start.
Sorry I can't help.

Yes, mechanic will find the problem.

Battery Light ON when engine is running means truck and engine are running only on battery power, 12volts, not the 13.5-14volts the alternator supplies, so spark and fuel pump will be running poorly.

Thats the first thing to fix

After that you should check computer for Codes, that may ID another place to look for a problem.

Popping and gurgling

When I got to my tech, I did hear the engine popping and gurgling. Took it to mechanic and he said the radiator was shot, replaced the radiator and now hes telling me than i need a new head and 750 for the labor. Toook it to another mechanic and he checked it out and said there is no circulation as the radiator is cold and upper hose is cold, and engine is getting hot. Hes thinking first to replace the thermostat. I asked him to explain why my other mechanic would say I need a head when he didnt even take the head off yet.

Can someone explain to me what the results of a warped head would cause, or a blown head gasket? In my days a blown head gasket may produce oil in the radiator, water coming from the exaust pipe. I have also heard that in super rare cases a cracked head or problematic head would create only combustion. My mechanic speaks only spanish (a product of living in Miami). I had an interpretor tell me that he said the radiator could blow up, or radiator in that case. But how would he know if that were the case if he didnt tear the head off? Is he just speculating wat could be a problem? I see no water in the oil, no water coming from the exhaust. Truck seemd to run ok except the radiator with no circulation.

Let me add one more tidbit of info. The spanish guy that rebuilt this motor 35 days ago, told me that we overheated the engine, cause the radiator was dry at one point or another. It was full when I took it to him, and I asked him. "Would the temperature guage not let me know if the engine was overheating?" I asked that of the mechanic and he said the guage inside the cluster if based on water temp only so if no water is in the system, the guage would not get any hotter and would look normal. Im thinking to myself thats BS. There should be some way of knowing if the motor is at extreme temps. I always tell my guys to keep an eye on the guages if they look out of norm, stop and call in. But if this is true then that guage is worthless. I was trying to catch him in a lie and see if he would say the temp guage would let us know if it was over heating cause when we brought it to the mechanic, it was running normal on the guage. I was thinking he might not put the sensor wire on. Remember the battery light I reported? Well the spanish mechanic said the wire fell off the alt hence the reason for the battery light on.

What engine? I just had the same problem with my 4.0l overheating. It turns out the water-pump impeller had separated from the shaft.
