Triangular piece on power steering pully

Hi I have. 2004 b4000 I need to know the name of triangular piece on front of power steering pulley thanks
 
Hi and welcome to TRS~!

You wouldn't happen to have a picture of this piece you could post by any chance? I don't have that engine but I can find just about anything on the internet...or the on-line manual...just need to know what it looks like...
 
The b4000 is a 4l engine I went to 3 car parts places today they had the pulley but not the triangular piece that is on the front and had no clue what I was talking about I hope this pic helps thanks

That's not the power steering pulley or pump.
That is the A/C Compressor. The triangular piece on the front is the A/C Clutch.

What are you trying to repair.?


The Power Steering Pump is right under to the right of the the A/C Compressor
 
Oh ok thanks well it's very noisy so looking at it those 3 heads look like they have bushings worn out that triangular piece moves all over up down left and right also should it spin with the pully cause sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't
 
That is the function of the AC clutch.

It is cycling the compressor on and off.

It is noisy when it clicks on and off.

It's not a noise it made when it cycled on or off this is constant loud noise and if I put my hand on the clutch an put pressure on it hold it in place it goes away
 
I would get it replaced soon then.

I had a similar sound a few weeks after getting my A/C Clutch replaced back in 2004. The center bolt walked it's way out a bit so I took it back and they put some thread locker on it and snugged it up and it's been fine. Might see if the clutch center bolt is just loose.
 
yeah time to replace the clutch. It is not a hard job, and you shouldn't need to evacuate the system. You will need to make sure that the air gap between the clutch face and the pulley is the correct spec, and you might need some shims/ spacers to do so. but removing the clutch/ pulley itself just needs a three jaw puller.

Replace the bearing while you got it out...

if it was me i would just replace the A/C compressor.
the last A/C clutch i replaced only bought me 2 months before the A/C compressor died. just my 2 cents

and mine just slid off without a puller

yeah, that would be the ultimate fix... especially if you are in AZ :)

the clutch itself will slide right off, but you will need a puller for the pulley/ bearing. I would replace the pulley and bearing with the clutch, if nothing else the mating surfaces of the clutch and pulley will both be new.

in replacing the compressor, you will want to replace the accumulator/ dryer and orifice tube, and flush the crap out of all of the other components, and after doing the flush part on the condenser and evaporator on my truck, if I were to do it again, I would go ahead and replace them instead of flushing...

so a compressor replacement can end up being a several hundred dollar job if you do it right. I ended up spending about 600 bucks in parts when I redid my a/c a few years ago. (I did replace pretty much everything except for the condenser and evaporator tho..)

AC clutches do fail and if you catch it early enough (before it beats the heck out of the compressor there is no need to change the compressor. I'd give just replacing the clutch a shot and see where that gets you.

Changing the compressor is about 600 dollar event, if you do it yourself. But, most of us don't have the tools or knowledge to do it (if you want a project, get the tools and learn). However, to get it done you are looking at about 1k or more worth of work.

On the other hand almost any of us can change that clutch without any problems.
 
Ok thanks for the info I took the clutch off an started it much quieter now my question is can I run the truck with it off its too cold round here now to use ac anyways these are pics of what was wrong with it
 
There might be an ac delete diagram right on your cross member, but usually it can be done by simply getting a smaller belt and bypassing the ac pulley. You might have to pull the compressor though...not sure...if the belt doesn't travel near the pulley it should be fine...
