i am having a really hard time locating a transfer case gasket for my 87 ranger 4x4 w/ a4ld ,the gasket in between the tranny tailshaft and the t-case any suggestions ?

Use RTV, no need for a gasket.

I've never used a gasket, RTV Ultra Grey.

Dealer should have it. They still use the same t-case bolt-up pattern on Rangers today.
I paid I think around $6 or so for one a couple years ago.
I agree though, it's not something absolutely needed.
