Hey all, I just swapped the clutch in my '97, 4WD last weekend. It's all doing fine, but for the longest time I've had a kinda scraping noise when the truck's moving. It's been there for years, and doesn't matter if I'm accelerating or decelerating, it's present when I'm moving. I changed fluid last year, using Castrol Transmax,. The stuff that came out was a little dark. I did check and top the trans and transfer when I put it all back together last weekend, but I think I'll go ahead and change it this weekend....maybe with Mobil1 synthetic.
The questions at hand...suggestions on the noise...and is the Mobil1 ok to use?

I would stick with OEM recommended atf. Using the wrong oil screws things up.

Do you have four-wheel drive and or limited-slip? they also seem to develop some of these noises.

Don't know about limited slip, but it is a 4wd. It sounds high, but I can't tell if it's in the trans or the TC.
I mentioned it because my truck even though it's an automatic, started making noises after slowing down and or start rolling usually when turning left

You aint got a busted/cracked flywheel do ya?

No. it made this noise before the clutch swap, and I installed a new flywheel and pilot.

And I'm wrong about the timing. It's when the clutch pedal up, whether the truck's moving in gear, or in neutral. My bad...sorry.

Did you ever find the noise?
my truck is definitely doing it! Mostly on slow left turns w slight acceleration, feels like it's right under the driver's seat but I don't know how the t-case can make a noise on a turn so my guess is it's the rear end transferring the noise up the drive shaft to the T case and it's resonating from there but whatta I know lol
