I have an 88 bronco II that I just completed a trans swap on. When I replaced it I also replaced the gear oil, whole clutch, slave, and master cylinder. However, after I got it on the road it started making this horrible noise when it's in gear except for 4th. It sounds like the trans is eating itself in all other gears. What could be causing this noise? The trans is a FM-146 with a 1350 manual shift t-case.

If it is doing it in every gear except 4th it sounds like the pocket bearing is bad.

Seen it many times with Mazda/ Toyo kogo transmissions. I'd replace all the bearings because they've all run in fluid with metal particles floating in it. Mitsubishi transmissions were worse, if you shifted to reverse too quickly after depressing the clutch the gears were still spinning and the teeth on the 2 piece, welded together gear would break off. Then reverse would become your second neutral. More superior Japanese technology.

Thanks for the help. I was afraid it was going to be something like that. I have another trans that I'll get checked out first and if it's good I'll just have to do another swap.
