I have a 1989 ranger with a 2.9 V6 with AOD transmission and I want to swap in a 2.3 sohc ( the pinto motor). Does anybody know who makes a trans adapter to accomplish this?

Your 2.9 Ranger doesn't have an AOD trans.

It has an A4LD trans.

And the "pinto" engine also known as the 2.3 "Lima" was
also a Stock engine in Rangers through to the end of 1999-ish
though the engine had been developed some.

You just need an A4LD bellhousing from a 1985-1994 Ranger.

No, because with EFI engines in Rangers, Bronco2's and Explorers
'85-94 the ONLY auto is the A4LD.

Diff. question....

What would be needed to put an AOD from a 91 mustang 5.o into an 87 ranger 2.9?

is this possible?

C4 could be done, never heard of anything trying an AOD. Otherwise, the flexplate would need to mate to the torque converter and you'd need an adapter to mate the engine to the trans. AOD also needs kick down and you'd have to get the geometry right, I doubt you would want to use the A4LD kick down that's attached to the gas pedal. I believe the NSS and reverse light plug would be close though.

Also, I have put an AOD in from the bottom of the truck - the sun, moon, and a few stars need to be in alignment to fit it between the radius arm cross member and the cab. Not possible w/o a good transmission jack.

The AOD output splines were also different, as I imagine the drive shaft lengths could possibly be as well.

Probably have to run an aftermarket shifter, but it may be possible to adapt what's there. It was easier for me to just use a B&M.

Thanks for the quick reply, Pete. What all would be needed for the C-4?

Bell, input/tailshaft,comp(truck is EFI), torque converted, etc?
