Tranny started whining bad! Please help!

Well for about a week my tranny started whining while under accelleration. It's worse in 1st through 3rd, but still noticeable in 4th and 5th. This is a manual tranny in my 95 Ranger with the 2.3

I found a donor at my local pick-n-pull for $125 plus a $10 core. I'm on my way to pull it right now.

I tried draining the fluid but I guess there was a leak and I was running low on fluid FOR A WHILE.

Do you guys think the tranny is shot? I drained what fluid was left and refilled with new fluid but to no avail. I think I at least fried the bearings. This donor tranny has 130,000 on it while my old one (this one) has well over 300,000. Just tell me what you guys think or know from experience please? Thanks.

If it's only while under acceleration, and not while coasting, at least one of the gears is damaged as well. Bearings aren't usually directional; gears often are.

Odds are that there is quite a bit of carnage in there, but only a teardown will tell for sure.

I opted to pass on the tranny out at the salvage yard because I found two invoice slips that proved that transmission had 230,000 miles and not 130,000. That's a little too high of mileage for me to buy a donor tranny. I'll be asking for trouble with that one I think.
