Trade my 1998 for a 2007? Good idea?

My truck is at 207000km, low rust for here... It has a rebuilt transmission put in at 165000km... It has the 4.0 ohv, 5r55w (I think) and 4x4 with manual locking hubs... The engine has a small oil leak, not enough to drip on the floor of my garage...front diff would need new seals at some point, small oil leak there too... The a/c needs some work...

The thing I'm debating right now is low miles units are getting rare over here. I think the ranger or b4000 is the right size truck, I can do some maintenance on it.. I won't be able to afford a new one.

There is a 2007 ranger, 4.0 sohc, m5od, 4x4 with only 65000km on it, the dealer wrote that the po was a 60 years old man. Looks really clean and rust free.

Do I get a loan and buy it? Before there is no more low miles rangers of that era? Or do I keep on maintaining my 98 b4000 until it dies.... And then what?...

I'm not a fan of step sides or autos, but that is a nice looking truck and I'm not sure I'd get rid of it.

On the other hand, that other truck sounds nice. I'd love to find a clean 4th gen with 4.0 and manual trans. All the better if it was an FX4 L2 with manual t-case.

It is a sport with electronic shift TC.

What's your truck worth realistically, and what do they want for the new one? How long would the difference in money keep your old truck in parts?

It's probably worth around 2 grand if I sell it myself... The newer truck, they want 11000$ +TX . I guess I could maintain my old truck 5 to 10 years... Food for thoughts, thanks guys!

So if my math is correct thats 8,400 dollars U.S and 40,000 miles....

Id jump all over that thing as long as it wasn't a rust bucket underneath or has some major mechanical defect.

There will be some rust unless it has been rustproofed from day 1... Typically at that mileage, it's really not that bad, we get more sand then salt in the winter nowadays...

The 98 isn't really a stepside - its Madza's styling of the Styleside. At least it has full box width internally, whatever the outside looks like.

The 98 would have the 5r55e - from what I have seen the 5r55w only come in Explorers and then only in '02s. From '03 on they move to the 5r55s.

Recognize Eric will pay 5% GST and 9.5% on Truck and QST and whoever buys his truck will pay 9.75%. Quebec gov't is the original robber baron.

The price for the package is pretty good - I would be challenged to match it here in Alberta and we don't pay QST. You should sell your B4000 here, you could get 50% more than what you were thinking here.

I wasn't sure about the transmission, thanks for clarifying...yeah we live in a socialist environment over here....taxes are really high, and services are really bad... Anyway, to each it's set of problems I guess...

I'll see if the truck is still available next week when I come back from work... Then decide if I go for it or not...

You could always overthrow the government. It worked for us, for a while anyway.

I will finally keep my truck...no payment, just keep on maintaining... Had my a/c fixed for 350$... Still cheaper than a newer truck....

It was election day yesterday in the Quebec province, a newer party won...

The hopes are high since this party claims that they will be the middle class party, and open the doors to the private enterprise in many sectors actually run by the government,

he wants to Clean up the province administration... Lower the taxes

He doesn't want the Quebec to separate from the rest of Canada

The party's name is caq Wich translate to coalition for Quebec's future

I'm no expert when talking about politics, but giving these guys a chance is the best thing that could happen over here
