pulls great but would not be on the road with out prodigy brake controller, heavy spring pack, large rear sway-bar,and a back up camera. With mirror extensions the best I can do is see down the sides, the camera keeps me safe and legal. Have pullled this trailer over 500 miles this year camping, fishing, hunting and about to go Elk hunting in a few days with my ''new'' to me 2002 4.0 XLT offroad. Wife and I love it with pictures to prove it.

Awesome! Whats your setup on that truck? All stock? 4.0 and stickshift?

The 2002 offroad kept surprising me as I set it up. Larger front sway bar with no rear sway bar in back from factory (to help with articulation) but I don't climb rocks so added a hellwig rear bar. I found it has a factory upgraded rear spring pak and a stock 4.10 rear end with 245x16 tires. The transmission cooler is larger and air is better directed to it. Now you know it's an automatic. kept the Prodigy brake controller out of the 97. Oh... I use a poor mans back-up camera for now; an old web cam with USB extensions and my mini laptop. The extra power of the 4.0 SOHC is very noticeable and have had no problem keeping hi-way speeds. My wife drives this setup when I follow pulling the boat . Sounds like a Ranger advertisement, but we love it.

whats the mileg like

Have you had it across the scales? Just curious as to how the rig weighs out.

I have a similar set up with a 17 ft. sport king 5th wheal. I towed it to yellow stone last year behind my 02 ranger. It pulls great especially for a 3.0 automatic. But it cuts my mileage down to like 10.
