So I did a stupid thing and dropped $800 replacing my clutch/slave/flywheel, switched to manual hubs, changed all fluids and fixed some body damage and then went and got a compression test. I'm at about 75 on all cylinders. It should be 150. Do I hunt down a rebuilt 4.0 or sell the piece and buy something else?

Keep The Ranger Alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If You Even Think About Selling It, I'll Come Down From Oregon!

keep The Ranger Alive!!!

keep it ive had mine for three yrs and in one yr im getting a newer ford to make my ranger a beast keep it

If it still runs, drive it and look for another motor. When (if) it goes, swap 'em.

I voted OTHER...drive it till it won't go and then drop in a carbed 2.3 that I just happen to have availalbe...lol

I'd agree with the majority here...fix it when needed...or find a replacment in the mean time...

Keep it! i just blew my engine up and i'm replacing it with one my friend happened to have at his house...

Where are the other set of numbers and was the engine warm? You run a compression test with the engine warm and all the spark plugs removed. You get the highest reading per cylinder and then squirt some motor oil and repeat the test. The few squirts of oil will momemtarily help to seal worn piston rings and you should see a marked increase in the compression test results if the rings were worn. If the numbers stay the same this is an indication of valve wear. Rings worn = costly engine rebuild, valves worn or burnt = rebuilt set of heads and an afternoon under the hood.

Keep it man. How many miles are on it? The cost of a new rig in good shape is way higher then replacing an engine. Especially since you already put money into it. And I don't know about you, but my trucks sentimental value is way higher then what anyone could offer me at this point.
