Tire and Stance

You won't burn up the trans unless you drive it like an idiot.

Take it easier on takeoff, and turn off O/D if it starts to hunt. The heat generated by lugging in O/D and constant shifting between 3rd and 4th is what kills them.

Although with your current situation the rear end may need to come first.

Ooops, fixed my math and tire size error. My post meant to provide objective info. vs opinion, sorry.

Update: In case anyone is interested... Got a new axle. 8.8 inch, 4.10 gears from a 2003 fx4, I think. Still needs to be installed.

They even threw in these super hard to find 2 inch lift blocks.

Also got some new tires for my wheels. Need them ahead of time since the new axle hubs are too large for the old wheels.

They are 255/70r15 General Grabber AT2's. So far, they fit super well. No rubbing at full steer! These are 29" tall.

I may not lift it at all if the tires never rub. At least not right away. Not sure I want to spend even more money right now on springs and alignment bushings. Plus, even if aligned, it changes the steering geometry, right?

Correction: the tires do rub on the sway bar at full clock. Not a big deal though.

But nothing else is in the way.

So for the record. You can sort of fit 255/70r15 tires on sock 15x7 wheels on a 2wd, stock twin i-beam ranger.
Here's a better picture.

If I had known those were hard to find, I wouldn't have left them laying in the junkyard when I got my axle last week.

Nice find with that axle. Should work well for you.

Looks good!

And with 4.10's you can go bigger and lift a little when you want.
