Tintshade+chrome=black chrome?

Maybe it is called nightshade, stuff used to tint tail lights. Has anyone tried it?

Thinking of abstract possiblities for my truck when I repaint it, I like the chrome but I wouldn't mind subdoing it somewhat.

I am really curious about how well it coats for something big and multi-sided... like a first gen grille. How durable is it for bug and rock strikes?

How did it work out? I want to nightshade my tails and 3rd light. I want the darkened look but I hate those cars I see at night with taillights that dont shine through. I want visible taillights

I also put a little brighter bulbs in as well. I ended up goin back and sanding them and goin a little lighter on the black, talked to a cop and he said during the day if the sun hits them and it shows through with at least a hint of red then I'm good. The silver seems to make no difference in light output. Then again I also went as light as I could with the silver cause reverse lights are your best friend in dark woods lol

Just remember, nice easy even and thin coats. Pace yourself. It should take at least 3 of the thinnest possible coats (more like a dusting than a coat)

You can also plastidip the tail lights. It is easy to do and can be peeled off easily.

I have tried the 'Black Chrome' on various surfaces with mixed results.
On a couple of license frames it's held up fairly well, another not so much.
Flat laying bright aluminum plate, peels some after a year or so.

I also did a tube grill, that one turned out the best and has held up very well.

Thanks, if it would work it would be a neat look... if it didn't work it wouldn't look so nice.

I really have doubts about how it would take rock and bug strikes on the grille...

My grille is behind a push bar and lights so it has some protection. So far that application has held up fairly well.

I also did the plate bracket, you can see just a bit of it. That one came out looking more dark grey than a real black.
