So I've seen the commercials and decided to check out the new 2013 Lincoln MKZ, and I have to say I'm quite impressed. First off they outside looks pretty good, it's fresh and new, but with a sleek, stealthy look to it. As for the interior and features they really put some cool toys in with it. Firstly, the push button shifting, that is really cool, and the panoramic roof, that's just awesome. You can get it in FWD, RWD, and HYBRID, and the engines are a 2.0L Ti-VCT I-4 EcoBoost, 3.7L 24-valve Ti-VCT V6 Engine, and a 2.0L Atkinson-Cycle I-4 Hybrid Engine. The RWD and FWD get 21 and 26 combined mpg while the hybrid gets 45. And it seats up to 5 people, and range from 35k-42k in price. This actually caught my eye and I like it a lot, so what's everyone's opinions on it?
 
The MKZ is mostly the same thing as a Fusion.

That said, the turbo ones are kick-ass.

Yeah, they are. Turbos seem like a more efficient way of getting power. I believe that's what the whole Eco-Boost deal it about.

Yeah the ecoboosts are typically smaller engines with turbos that put out bigger-engine HP and torque... Like the 3.7l v6 in the F150 that puts out like 350hp or whatever.

Lincolns are one of the most reliable cars. In fact, they were #1 in the most recent reliability study I saw(cant remember who did it though... Might have been Yahoo motors? lol)
 
I test drove an ecoboost model a few weeks ago. They're very comfortable and the ecoboost motor pulls the Lincoln's weight very well. There wasn't a single time when it felt under powered.

Yeah, it really helps. I had a normal turboed car years ago (1990 Plymouth Laser RS aka Mitsubishi Eclipse) It averaged just shy of 30mpg on the interstate and no matter what I could not get less than 20mpg out of it.

That was with a fairly old school indirect injected DOHC 2.0 four cylinder with a 5 speed that put out an impressive for its day 200hp. It only had one turbo that ran 11lbs of boost... it fun to watch the boost needle play with hills when the cruise was on.

I had a 1961 Chrysler with push button shifting... What's so great about that?

I swear half the thrill of a lot of the new "frills" is the repair bill hanging over your head when something screws up and strands you somewhere. It makes people feel adventurous.

It is only going to get worse from a reliability standpoint with the new EPA fuel ratings coming down as they have to cut weight AND cram more unneeded crap into vehicles. They are going to 28ga wiring (like phone wire) and more modules to save weight (750lbs less wiring on one model, Escape IIRC) and are even looking into going fiber optic in the future. IMO they are making them more and more disposable all the while making them more expensive.

Nothing really, just something different you do, it let them fit some extra stuff in the center console, from what I read. And maybe it adds that "luxurious" touch, but meh. And in the first place, you're driving and auto so instead of using the stick, you just have a button to push. Makes sense to me.
