I have an 06 ranger 4x4 and i have a bit of a problem. I was driving down the road and after it 40mph it started to jolt or shake whenever i pressed the pedal down to try and accelerate further. It also does it around 55mph. Its a continuous jolt or shake until you let off the pedal. Anybody know what it could be?

Shake or whatever... Now what the hell does that mean?

If it is the engine I'd first suspect a fuel filter..
If it is in the chassis then I'd be looking at the U-joints,,
But if anyone here is supposed to figure it out they will need a much better description than "or whatever"!!

Okay. Hope this in depth description will help. I am driving down the road and as soon as it hits 3rd gear as i continue to depress the pedal the engine (i assume) starts to jolt. It is a steady jolt that will continue if i try to depress the gas pedal further. The only way to stop it is to let off the gas and then press the pedal down hard and accelerate quickly through that gear. The problem also happens around 55 mph. I had a bit of this problem before and had the transmission flushed and new fluid put in and the problem ceased from what i remember. This time it seems to be worse though.

Is it in 3rd gear only? Is there a certain RPM it only seems to do it on? Also with a transmission flush was the proper fluid put in that you know? Just had a very similar problem on my 02 that it would feel like I was hitting the rumble strips on the side of the road but jerk a bit more around 50mph and 2k RPM. I had no CEL did a compression test and had 5lb of compression in #2 cylinder. Check to see if it does it more under a load or if it does not do it while going down hill, stuff like that. Would suspect fuel delivery giving your info now but experiment more and try to get it to do it and look at your RPM's and Speed and see if there is a consistancy with that.

How many miles is on it and have you ever tuned it up (ie plugs, wires or air and fuel filter)? I agree with Jim though sounds like it is starving for fuel. But do a tune up anyway.

Depending on the RPM range, this "bucking" can also be signs of a failing Syncro Shaft.

On my 4.0L, I had the exact same problem that turned out to be a cracked autolite plug.

Yeah i took it to a buddy of mines shop and we pretty much narrowed it down to feul delivery. Gunna change the fuel filter friday. I appreciate the info though.

+1 on the syncro. if your fuel filter doesnt fix it i'd look into replacing the syncro
